Offering diverse and distinct events to the Sarasota
community and its visitors.
Ed
Smith Stadium opened in 1989 in time for the Chicago
White Sox' spring training, replacing old Payne Park. This 53-acre
site maintains a national reputation as a premier baseball facility
in the
State of Florida and continues to be the mecca of baseball and
other events in the area.
The spring training home of the Cincinnati Reds since
1998, local residents and visitors from across the country and Canada
have
a chance
to catch the action of their favorite teams and players in
the relaxed atmosphere of beautiful Sarasota.
The Florida State League Franchise of the Cincinnati Reds fills
the stadium with family entertainment throughout the summer
with the Sarasota Reds' 70 plus home games. Year-round residents continue
to enjoy the economical
entertainment offered by this Class A professional baseball
club.
Youth, high school, AAU, FHSAA and adult and professional
organizations also enjoy the participatory use of the City of Sarasota
Sports Complex and Ed Smith Stadium.
Multi-purpose use of the complex includes clinics, festivals,
circuses, concerts, car shows, private rentals, TV broadcasts,
commercials, and seminars.
Overall, the City of Sarasota Sports Complex and Ed Smith
Stadium is one of the most utilized facilities in the
City and our goal is to increase usage while maintaining
its physical integrity and
place in the
City's quality of life.
Whether it is baseball or some other event we are hosting,
we would appreciate your support and input. So, come
